My little ol' man Herc (age 11) and I went to run agility courses over the weekend. While we failed to qualify in any of our four runs, we learned some valuable lessons to use at the next trials and had a lot of fun. Herc's sister Emma (age 5) did qualify for one leg toward her Jumpers title - and conquered some recent fears she's been having - so all in all it was a good weekend.

Awesome? Are the agility courses when they have to weave in and out of the poles? I always found that fascinating - or is it an entire course? My dog couldn't even fit through those poles, he's not agile at all And what fear did Emma conquer if you don't mind me asking?

The weave poles are just part of the course, there is the A-frame that they have to climb over, the dog-walk = bridge that they have to walk across, tunnels to run through, and jumps to go over - all in the correct order within a certain time limit. We have a blast doing it -
Emma, bless her little heart, took a flying leap off the top of the teeter totter a few weeks ago - that's like 6 feet up in the air before it starts coming down. The dogs are supposed to ride it down and not get off till the board hits the ground -- the big dogs make it go down really fast but the small ones don't have the weight for it, they have to find the tipping point and wait for the board to slowly tip and then go down. She didn't get hurt, just scared the **** out of everybody who was watching her do it. She's been hesitant to go up any of the contacts (A-frame, dog walk, teeter) since -- but this time she sailed right along on her last run.

I thought that's what the agility course was, i see it on TV. I love watching that along with the contest for dogs to see how far they can jump into the water when the handler tosses the ball. I just love it, they look like they're having the time of their life! And glad to hear that Emma got over her "fear." I'm sure that woudl be scary for a little dog to jump from a distance that high. Mine would tip the board in 1 second
