I know very little about the World Cup - I gather there is a 4-year gap between events, much like the Olympics? Teach us, please --

It is in the qualifying stage. Various countries are in groups, I believe by continents. Periodically they have matches to determine who the top 3 teams are in each group. Eventually that top three will qualify for to compete in the World Cup in South Africa in 2010

OK the nations are placed into groups - similar to Davis Cup and Fed Cup zonals - with the chance to work up to play for the World Cup. Sounds good. It begins to make sense to me! And I was crazy about the 4-year thing, I keep forgetting that 2010 is not a long way off, it is NEXT year !!!
Hard to believe, time is flying by so fast ---
